[edit] Alternative housing
The following should be cut: "Another alternative solution to housing problems is thought by some to be possible through the construction of geodesic domes, a structure which can be built quite quickly from widely available materials such as scaffolding and tarpaulins." Why not say "tents provide a solution" or "strawbale is the answer" as geodesic domes are an outdated housing fad which is an overall bad idea. Spend some time researching geodesic dome construction...or google the ones that have been demolished and even bucky would probably agree. Regardless this is advocating something and pointless...please wiki person fill in the "paragraph 87 section b" of the wiki constitution that agrees with me. --Neil (writing again thanks to the months long end of an overaggressive blanket ban on all IPs with the same host as mine...while any actual vandals could easily subvert the IP restrictions)
[edit] Past tense
For reasons I cannot fathom this article was written in the past tense. This has now now been changed. As the last paragraph acknowledges, the alternative society is not dead, and to write as if it is is POV. LETs is but one source of thousands that can prove this. It is certainly a word I regularly used with many people in England when I was last there in 2003. It is bprobably in better sghape than ever. Otherwise a nice article, --SqueakBox 02:32, Feb 27, 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Pseudoscientific
I have trouble with this phrase: "pseudoscientific theories such as pagan religion" What exactly does the author mean? It seems to be saying that pagan religion is an example of a pseudoscientific theory. This strikes me as unsubstantiated at best and at worst offensive to those who practice pagan religion. Try to imagine the uproar if someone used the phrase "pseudoscientific theories such as christianity" !! Since I really don't know what the author is trying to say, I don't have a suggestion for editing. Please clarify, someone.
[edit] Proposed annihilation
As this article is a vague sprawling mess with no single coherent subject, I propose splitting it into its constituent parts of intentional community, underground culture, alternative lifestyle/culture, utopianism etc and replace with a disambiguation page. - This merry pyrate says Huzzah! Loot and plunder! Or, barring that, prune, cut, and paste. ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 05:31, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
- Here is my plan for the dismemberment of this article:
- "Alternative alternatives" is useless, and could be lost altogether with no harm done.
- There might be some useful information in the brief "Underground press" section that can be moved over to that article.
- The "environmentalism" section says nothing that is not dealt with better in a number of other articles, like environmentalism and green politics so it can be cut w/ no loss.
- "Building alternative services" has information that could be merged into the intentional communities article.
- "Christiania" says nothing that is not already said in the main article, so it can be removed altogether.
- "Religious and pseudo-religious groups" is a mess, full of speculation, POV language, and a lot of rubbish. I am not sure that any of it is salvageable, or, if it were, where it would go.
- The section on the "Situationist International," interestingly, does not really talk about the SI much, and what it does say is not useful. Nothing there that is useful, in my humble opinion.
- "The end of an era?" section, likewise, is not useful. Speculation, redlinks, and POV language again.
