Alsea River
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Alsea River flows for about 40 miles (64 km) along the Pacific coast of western Oregon in the United States. It drains an area of Central Oregon Coast Range southwest of Corvallis. It rises in several forks in northwestern Lane County, approximately 15 miles (24 km) northwest of Eugene. It flows generally WNW in a winding course through the mountains of southern Benton and Lincoln counties, past Alsea and Tidewater, passing through the Siuslaw National Forest. It enters the Pacific at Alsea Bay, a wide estuary at Waldport.
The Alsea River supports sizeable runs of Chinook and coho salmon, as well as steelhead and cutthroat trout. A salmon hatchery is located on one of its tributaries. It is a popular fishing stream with local residents.
