From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Haifa Linux Club (or Haifux) is an unofficial organization of members of the Linux community in Haifa, Israel. Founded in August 1999, it was the first Linux user group in Israel to hold regular meetings. It was founded by Orr Dunkelman and Guy Keren as an unofficial gathering of a few students in the Technion -- Israel's institute of Technology. Since then the club has given more than 100 lectures on various topics, most of which have slides available online. The club is also known for its annual Welcome to Linux lecture series, which is intended to introduce new users to the Linux operating system.
During the 2006 Lebanon War the Haifa Linux club has ceased operations for three months due to the Technion being closed and related network problems with the server hosted there.
The club's activities are in several planes:
- Semi-weekly meetings in which we hear various Linux-related lectures.
- "Welcome to Linux" lectures: introductory lectures, designated at newcomers, including a linuxday.
- "Staying in Linux" lectures: post introductory lectures.
- A low-volume mailing list which hosts discussions about the club.
- Linux-related projects, such as syscalltrack.
