An able-bodied seaman climbs a kingpost aboard a general cargo ship or freighter. The seaman shown here is going aloft to rig a bosun's chair from which he will be suspended while "slushing" or greasing the wire rope of the freighter's cargo handling equipment. Typically, only veteran seamen work aloft and then only during stable sea conditions.
