Alkon is a technology and digital entertainment website located in Argentina, which focuses on providing news, articles, reviews, previews, guides and cheats. The site was created by Guillermo Ferrero in 2001 and started initially as a forum for Counter-Strike gamers (as "Alkon" was the name of a game clan that played that game). As to date, Alkon is the most important Technology and Gaming community in Latin America. [1]

In 2000, a group of friends from Buenos Aires, Argentina formed a Counter-Strike clan named Alkon (due to the police special forces group "Halcón" from the Policia Federal Argentina) and decided to make a forum to discuss about the game in 2001. As time passed by, the website team started adding news about recent tournaments and posting game mods, until 2002 where they completely redesigned the website to include the first game reviews and guides.

Alkon has been awarded 2 mate.ar awards (the most important Internet-related event in Argentina), one as the best website in the category of Entertainment and Free time, and another as the best company in that segment. [2] [3]

In 2004, Alkon and Fibertel (a very recognized broadband provider from Argentina) partnered and hosted the TFA (Torneo Fibertel Alkon), a Counter-Strike tournament which received players from all over Latin America [4]

According to the website statistics, Alkon has over 200.000 registered users from all around the world and over 100 forums discussing a long range of topics including videogames, technology and modding to love, sexuality, sports and other miscellaneous topics of discussion [5]. The forums use a manual moderation system with numerous volunteer moderators. As to April, 2007 the number of moderators ascend to over 150. [6]

All registered users in Alkon participate in a sort of RPG-like game while they post, where accordingly to how they behave, contribute and help they are granted prizes for their efforts.[7]
