[edit] Fair use rationale for List of companions in Doctor Who spin-offs
Though the picture is subject to copyright, I (Josiah Rowe (talk • contribs) 04:25, 30 August 2007 (UTC)) feel it is covered by the U.S. fair use law because:
- The image is a low-resolution screenshot of a single frame of the animated webcast;
- The image is being used for informational purposes about the character Alison Cheney, as voiced by actor Sophie Okonedo in the webcast Scream of the Shalka;
- No more free alternative exists, because the image is of a fictional character and all images of the character will have the same copyright status;
- The use of the image in this article will have no effect on the copyright holder's commercial use of the image in question.
This image is a screenshot from a copyrighted video, and the copyright for it is most likely owned by the individual or company which produced the video, and possibly also by any actors appearing in the screenshot. It is believed that the use of a limited number of web-resolution screenshots
qualifies as fair use under United States copyright law. Any other uses of this image, on Wikipedia or elsewhere, may be copyright infringement. See Wikipedia:Non-free content for more information. |
