Alhaji Aliu Mahama (born 3 March 1946) has been Vice-President of Ghana since 7 January 2001.

Mahama sought to become the candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the 2008 presidential election at the party's congress in December 2007,[1][2] but he received only 6.38% of delegates' votes (146 votes). After this defeat he said that he had not expected such a poor result and that he would leave politics.[2]
