Alieu is a male name in the West African countries of Gambia, Senegal, Mali and Guinea. The name has its origins with the Fulani ethnic group. Alieu is a common name in the Royal Families of the Fulanis and the reason for this is the fact that it used to be a name exclusively reserved for Royalty. This practice has continued to present day in many Fulani clans, most notably the Barry, Bah and Jallow clans.
