[edit] The Araneta Center Master Plan
Soon, shopaholics will experience shopping pleasure as Ali Mall, the country’s first shopping center, undergoes a major renovation to better serve its loyal patrons and reinforce its reputation as the premiere complete shopping and dining mecca. The mall-wide revamp is in line with Araneta Center’s 20-year Redevelopment Master Plan. Situated at the heart of Araneta Center, Ali Mall will be refurbished to respond to the discriminating and varied tastes of shoppers. From an updated exterior look, the shopping center will also have an upgraded and more interesting merchandise mix beginning with the launch of Shoe Center, a total lifestyle outlet offering quality shoes and bags at value-friendly prices. Ali Mall is also home to some of the country’s leading retail outlets such as Adidas, The Body Shop, Royal Sporting House, Plains and Prints, Folded and Hung, Marithe Francois Girbaud, Wade, Guess, Converse, National Bookstore, Rustan’s Expresslane, and Mercury Drug. Apart from world-class shopping choices, the redevelopment project will also give way to more exciting dining destinations in addition to its existing roster of food outlets. The gastronomic adventure will continue to be one of its main attractions and will be even more delightful with well-loved food chains such as Pizza Hut, Tokyo Tokyo, Old Spaghetti House, KFC, Hap Chan, Pancake House, Max’s, and Gerry’s Grill around. Movie buffs can likewise look forward to fully-refurbished Ali Mall Cinemas that will showcase state-of-the-art equipment to match that of Gateway Cineplex 10, hailed as one of the best cinemas in the metro today. New escalators will replace stairways while a bridgeway will be constructed to directly connect Ali Mall to the adjacent SM Department Store for shopping access. Lush landscaping and wider sidewalks will be developed to create a more inviting streetscape. A transformation is taking place at Ali Mall like nothing the complex has seen in its history. The revitalization effort will include a bridgeway on the Second Level which will connect Ali Mall to nearby SM Department Store. On the Third level, the project will include the refurbishing of the existing cinemas to world-class standards showcasing state-of-the-art equipment. The Third Level will also feature new food outlets. New escalators will replace existing stairs to provide convenient access to retailers and restaurants on all floors of the mall, while new, lush landscaping and wider sidewalks will create an inviting and pedestrian-friendly streetscape. This revitalization effort will add up to 2,500 square meters of retail on the Ground Floor alone. The revitalization of Ali Mall is the second major renovation of the complex since it was first built in 1976. To facilitate construction and for the safety of visitors, there will be temporary detours to stores and restaurants during the revitalization. Ali Mall management will endeavor to make these temporary detours as convenient as possible. Signage will be located throughout the mall to aid in navigating detours.
