Chairs of departments at the major german universities always turn out, when checked, to be very distinguished indeed. What was examined before placing the prod? There are 330 hits in google Scholar, including a number of books he wrote. . DGG (talk) 04:06, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

I examined Google. My biggest concern was that the text could be found hither and thither on the internet ([1], [2], [3]) and that, if memory serves, there was a link to a Youtube video that appeared to be designed to espouse some political views though, admittedly, I did not and have not watched the video. I made another edit to the article today based on this [4], which seems to indicate that he's not dead. At the same time, I don't see that he's the department head, either. Admittedly, my German is rusty. With all respect and not to be argumentative, is the implication that I was just indiscriminately throwing around Prod tags for kicks? There is no reliable source that I could find that he's even a chair. I won't AfD it, 'cause I'm not keen on seeing the pages of published academics deleted, but I still don't see the notability. I wasn't even thinking about the Islamic connection, and I doubt he is notable for that. But I can see that as a reason for possibly motivating the insertion of the article. From the web site "Thinking about many of these questions and thinking where Muhammad came from, he was after all a Bedouin. I think it is almost impossible that he could have known about things like the common origin of the universe, because scientists have only found out within the last few years with very complicated and advanced technological methods that this is the case."

I didnt yet look for articles, though, and I will, and holdings of his books in libraries--and the rest of the usual documentation for academics. It's just as frequent people putting in articles say too little as too much. DGG (talk) 20:59, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

I found the following text, that is attributed to Prof. Kröner:

Dear xxxx,

I have answered literally hundreds of e-mails over the years concerning

this issue. In 1979 I attended a geological conference in Jedda, Saudi

Arabia, and there was a TV-Interview with five western geologists,

organized by the then Minister of Religious Affairs who had a PhD in

Geology. The issue was whether the Quran was compatible with modern

views on the evolution of the Earth. As you can imagine there are

alsways aspects in religious writing that are compatible with nature,

and the Quran is no exception. The citations that you now find on these

religious sites are taken out of context, I cannot even remember

details of the interview.

In any case, whatever you find on these sites I surely never said as it

is quoted now. There is little I can do about this, I asked several

friends in the islamic world for advice, and they all said just to

leave it and live with it.

However, I found this text at a German discussion-forum, so I guess there will be questions about the trustworthiness of the letter. So far, the Islamic websites and the Youtube-video look somewhat more reliable to me. Meanwhile I mailed Prof. Kroner myself, but this will not provide any proof that is required over here.Jeff5102 07:25, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
