Alfredo Cachia Zammit

Alfredo Cachia Zammit (for short: Is-Sur Fred) (1890-1960) was a philanthropist and a politician that contest the election with the Malta Nationalist Party (Partit Nazzjonalista) in 1927 and was elected. He is the father of Dr. Alexander Cachia Zammit, minister for varies years and ambassador of Malta for the Vatican City.
Alfredo was born in Żejtun, Malta in 23rd June, 1890 the son of Alexander, brother of Salvatore Cachia Zammit, a very popular politician in the South of Malta from 1870 to 1909. For a good period of years, Alfredo Cachia Zammit was the president of Beland Band Club.
In 1923 married at Sliema (Malta) to Helen Asphar and in 1924 had the first child Alexander. The child Alexander become a doctor and complete the family politic tradition. Alexander Cachia Zammit elected for the first time in the honour of the Partit Nazzjonalista in 1955 and the last time that was elected in 1981 general elections. In 1962 Alexander become the Minister for Social Service , and also of Work and Emigration, and in 1966 minister for Health. He finished his politic life as an ambassador of Malta for the Vatican City, too. And was with his work that Pope John Paul II visited Malta between 25th and 27th 1990.
