[edit] Alexander Huzar

[edit] History:

Born on August 11, 1983 in the mountain town of Yaremche, Ukraine, located in the Carpathian mountains. Grew up in Lviv, Ukraine untill the age of 8 and was essentially raised by his grandmother untill then. During this time, on numerous occasions visited, for weeks at a time, the household of his father, Ihor who was divorced from the mother. While there, his father taught him things like how to make a kite, pick out ripe strawberries, and how to stop a poison mushroom. Also learned were the concepts of fishing, a river spring, that a land valley at one point in time was flooded by water, and the clutch pedal. Alexanded was also whitness to the deteriorating state of his father, who underwent laser surgery in Moscow some years ago in order to remove a brain tumor. While in the company of his cousins Andrij & Taras, he learned about the concept of an air rifle, and althou it was a mere toy, the principle of it was absorbed as if academia.

Alexander moved to Canada on (approximately) October 4, 1991 with his mother. For 2 weeks Alexander and his mother stayed in Toronto, and after that moved to the home of his uncle, Andriy in St. Albert near Edmonton, Alberta. During that winter a decision was made to move to Toronto due to conflict between the uncle and his wife, which lead to a divorce and he later moved to Saskatchewan. Alexander has resided in Toronto ever since. The move to Toronto, the lack of family, and an auto-accident in the first year which rupruted several ligaments in the mother's left knee, made her angry about everything in life. She blamed all her misfortunes on the death of Alexander's father, and the upbringing by her mother.

In Toronto, Alexander and mother changed residences dozens of times untill he lost track of the exact number of changes when it exceeded 20. Alexander was bullied in the ukrainian elementary schools due to soft and very gullible character. The lack of proper comnationship coupled with the lack of a father figure resulted in the significant lack of social skills. The experience of living with a mother who had a wildly different view about everything when compared to everyone else Alexander met resulted in many years not understanding people and questioning their motives and thus contributing to the anti-social behaviour. Interaction with women is a concept that Alexander understood the least. The idea of thought-process driven mostly by emotion instead of logic seemed wildly alien at the time. The first attempt of flirting with a girl can be clearly remembered by Alexander. In grade 5 he jokingly told a girl called Myra that he'd "sex her". It took Alexander a few years to understand why this upset Myra so much.

In his youth, Alexander had two episodes of fighting. The first was a futile attempt to excersice "martial arts" on a neighbourhood bully who was black. The second episode resulted from a boy named Ostap playing "monkey in the middle" with Alexander's gloves in the winter in the schoolyard during recess. Alexander quickly became weary of such teasing and crouched down and leaned against the wall. Ostap approached Alexander and remarked in a sarcastic tone "Are you ok?", this made Alexander furious, he got up and punched Ostap in the face with great speed and force which could only be described as an out-of-body experience. Ostap had a black eye which Alexander remembers changing different colours with time.

At around 1995, Alexander's mother met someone at the University of Toronto. This resulted in the birth of a sibling and taught Alexander to be responsible. The fact that that there was no marriage and that the man returned to his wife, leaving Alexander's mother, left his mother emotionally distraught, which significantly degraded relations at home.

The first visit to Ukraine in the year 2000 made Alexander's character much more solid and determined. When he returned to Toronto, he learned to be careful what to say, and was instructed by his mother to lie to his schoolmates about his whereabouts. Alexander decided to tell some of his friends at the time that he was actually visiting an uncle in Miami, Florida. During this time Alexander's mother bought for him his second computer. This was a Pentium 3 800 MHz with 256 MB RAM.

During the second visit to Ukraine, Alexander became grossly disgusted with the lifestyle of the average person in Lviv. The lack of technology and the self-centered, non-altruistic behaviour of the general populace was most notable. What Alexander found most shocking was that not only was technology not prevelant in Ukraine, but the people weren't even interested in it.

Alexander's relationship reached a climax during an episode at this time. His mother instructed him to repair a door that seperated the balcony from the kitchen, and she went out to do errands. When she returned a short while later, Alexander was nearly finished repairing the door, and she yelled "You're still not finished with that?!?". This was his breaking point and he grabbed his mother by the hair and briefly thought about hitting her head against the kitchen stove, but realized that such thoughts are evidence of a lack of control and immediately released her. Alexander then decided to take one third of the money that his mother had been accumulating over the years thru welfare and a meager insurance payout for her car accident in the first year in Canada. This money was used to buy a plane ticket the next day thru a travel agency, and about a week later Alexander was on his way back to Toronto. This was a decision made thru the realization that his mother had no intentions of returning to Canada, that Ukraine held no opportunities whatsoever for Alexander, that continued living with his mother would result in more burts of anger, and that life alone is the only way to preserve sanity.

Upon arrival in Toronto, he was picked up by Taras, whom he had met in school and was his classmate. Taras's parents arranged for Alexander to stay in their residence untill the issue of more permanent residence was resolved. On the second day, Alexander decided to purchase a $4000 mountain bike in an effort to own something that would bring joy to an otherwise grim situation. Alexander bragged about this in a meeting with peers that Taras had arranged in a coffe shop. This resulted in Taras's mother finding out and presenting him with an ultimatum. Alexander later that night decided to make use of the 911 number and explained that he had nowhere to stay, and was directed to a youth shelter called "Covenant House". This facility was designed to provide rules and guidance to youth, but failed to realize that in numerous aspects it did more harm than good in such an attempt. Alexander decided to focus on the good and took solice in the fact that the facility provided for all his physical needs. Regular school attendance was one of the conditions for staying at the facility.

After a couple of months, the decision was made to move into a rented room, found in a newspaper listing by Alexander's friend, Miguel. Furniture and a brand new at the time top of the line 1.2 GHz computer. This was Alexander's third computer. A $900+ video card provided for many hours of enjoyable gaming. Windows 98, however, was a constant source of frustration, which was alleviated in October 2001 by installing Windows XP.

At around this time, Alexander's mother decided to return to Canada because she said life in Ukraine was hard, where in reality she ran out of money. She asked to come over "to talk", but ended up staying for more than 2 weeks. She brought a small dog, for which Alexander was in no mood to take out for walks, nor did the mother have time to do so. The result was the dog defecating and urinating all over the floor, and since the attic was shared with another individual, this was taken rather seriously. The mother reasoned that it was the duty of the son to provide shelter for his mother, and Alexander reasoned that the accomodations had barely enough room for him and could not accomodate any more people, and sleeping in the hallway was the best way to have the landlord call the sheriff.

[edit] Education:

Before the age of 7, Alexander was home-schooled, and also attended a dance academy, a music school, and pre-school. Travelled to Poland on two occasions to perform dancing, and solo poem recitals for a crown numbering in the thousands (age 5). Learned to play the piano and to read and write musical notes. Also learned the concept of basic mathematics from an older classmate while in musical school.

At age 7, Alexander attended grade 1 at the "school #1", and sometime during the winder was switched into "school #53", which specialized in english language. Alexander does not remember if anything significant was learned while in grade 1 in either school. The extend of knowledge of the english language was the words "yes", "no", and the english alphabet.

Alexanded attended a protestant school in St. Albert while staying with uncle, and intermittently was sent to "St. Sophia" school in Edmonton to attend grade 3. Alexander remembers helping grade 3 students with math concepts he learned in grade 1 in Ukraine.

When the move to Toronto was made, Alexander was placed into grade 3 at "St. Demitrius" school and stayed there untill halfway into grade 4. Alexanded was enrolled in "St. Josaphat" school for the remainder of grade 4 and also completed fifth grade there. Alexander remembers learning significant new concepts in mathematics and social sciences while still in grade 4. Most notable was the concept of sex, and in mathematics were the concepts of the pathagorean theory, cross-multiplication, and long division. In grade 5 Alexander participated in a group effort to make a toy electric car made of D-cell batteries, telephone wire, electric motors, and bottle-caps.

At approximately this time, Alexander was places in a co-ed ukrainian youth scouts organization called PLAST. Basic survival skills, and also ukrainian culture and traditions were learned here. This was a welcome change from the monotonous lifestyle untill now.

Alexander attended the ramainder of grade 6 at "Josyph Cardinal Slipyj" elementary. Grade 7 teacher Mark Stadnyk left a huge impression on Alexander and is credited with teching Alexander the most significant amount of topics of any teacher. Grade 8 was begun in the same school, significant concepts were learned in geography and chemistry, however it was the most frustrating time in Alexander's education. The teacher, Mrs. Secquera, was most unforgiving, and always created a lot of commotion about the smallest thing. Exploiting Alexander's low self-esteem due to years of being bullied, she scared Alexander (on several occations) into admitting things he wasn't guilty of, thus resulting in detention. This resulted in the transfer to "Ryerson elementary" for the completion of grade 8.

While still attending "Josyph Cardinal Slipyj", Alexander was enrolled into a ukrainian saturday school. There he learned the subjects of history, grammar, and culture. He remained there untill the graduation in grade 11.

High school was attended at "Ursula Franklin Academy". While beginning grade 9, Alexander got his first computer at home, which resulted in a new-found fascination with computers. The computer aided and encouraged with making quality homework assignments while in grade 9. The concept of "overclocking" was introduced to Alexander by Ian Edmonds. While exploring the features and functions of the computer, an unknown act resulted in windows not being able to boot. Alexander was forced to read the manual and quickly discovered how easy it was to re-install the operating system. This was the beginning of the confidence that allowed Alexander to tacke unknown computer problems.

In grade 10, Alexander met Helder Miguel DaCosta and a deep friendship was instantly forged. The two created a website together in computer class on the topic of black holes. One more website was made by the two by the end of the year for a school assignment. Miguel introduced Alexander to free internet at around this time. The computer game "F-22 Raptor" by the company "Novalogic" coupled with the internet resulted in the first "all-nighter" where Alexander played the game online untill dawn. This was the first of many such occurances which are directly responsible for significantly lower grades.

During grade 11, Alexander's education was interrupted due to a visit to Lviv, Ukraine. While in Lviv, Alexander attended his former "school #53". All mathematical-related subjects were beyond understanding and Alexander made no significant effort because he realized that such effort would be futile due to mental overload. Grade 11 was completed back at "Ursula Franklin Academy". Alexander had to attend summer school due to bad grades from english class. The "wednesday sessions" was a very interesting experience, as it provided for a wide variety of interesting subjects that were not on the regular curriculum. Grade 12 was also interrupted by yet another visit to Lviv. While there, Alexander made an impression on his classmated by one day writing the most on-topic essay during ukrainian class. Badly failing grades were assigned for all subjects except for english class. After a feud with his mother, Alexander returned to "Ursula Franklin Academy" and attempted to complete grade 12. Much effort was placed into achieving good grades in the subjects of (grade OAC) chemistry and biology. A teacher's strike in spring coupled with the emotional trauma of living by himself at age 17 resulted in Alexander not completing grade 12. No more official academic education was achieved.
