Alexander "Alex" Bell, also known as Sandy Bell, (born 1883 in Cape Town, died 30 November 1934 in Chorlton-cum-Hardy) was a South African-born Scottish footballer who played at half back.
He was signed by Manchester United from Ayr Parkhouse for £700 in January 1903, becoming the first South African player at United. While at United, he helped the club win two First Division titles in 1908 and 1911 and one FA Cup in 1909. In March 1912, he was capped by the Scotland national team, playing in a 4-1 win over Ireland.
After scoring 10 goals in 306 appearances[1], he left United in July 1913 for Blackburn Rovers, which signed him for £1000. He played only a few matches for Blackburn before retiring. He later coached at Blackburn Rovers and Coventry City.
