Alex Benjamin Barron (born September 28, 1982 in Orangeburg, South Carolina) is an American football right tackle currently playing for the St. Louis Rams of the National Football League. He was selected with the 19th overall pick of the 2005 NFL Draft out of Florida State University.

[edit] High School career

Barron attended Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School in Orangeburg, South Carolina, and was a two-sport star in football and basketball. In football, he was named an All-American by both PrepStar and Football News, ranked the Number 3 lineman in the nation by PrepStar, named to the All-South team by the Orlando Sentinel, and selected as Jeff Whittaker's Deep South Recruiting Guide South Carolina Player of the Year.

[edit] College career

Barron attended Florida State University and was a football star. As a senior, Barron was one of three finalists for the Outland Trophy, and won consensus All-America first-team honors.

[edit] Professional career

Barron was drafted nineteenth pick overall by the St. Louis Rams in the 2005 NFL Draft. He has been starting for the Rams since his rookie-season. Barron has been plagued by penalties, especially false starts his whole career. Some seasons, he has had more false start penalties than other teams' entire offensive lines. One particularly memorable play happened in the 2005 season on a screen play. Barron apparently forgot what the play was and stepped in front of Steven Jackson, the intended receiver, to catch the ball for an illegal touching penalty. Some fans have simply dubbed this as "The Play."
