Aldinga (pronounced /ɔːlˈdɪŋɡə/; located at 35°16′S, 138°29′E) is a suburb of the City of Onkaparinga in South Australia, 45 kilometres from the centre of Adelaide. Aldinga marks the southern extent of the Adelaide urban growth boundary. Aldinga is well known for its long flat beaches on the Gulf Saint Vincent on the western side of Fleurieu Peninsula. This town was also the breeding ground for such hardcore bands as Another's Life, The Fall Of Troy And I Killed The Prom Queen.

Matthew Flinders explored the area in 1802, during his circumnavigation of Australia. Aldinga was a flourishing settlement during the 1860s, when it served as a port for the Fleurieu Peninsula.

[edit] Tourism

Aldinga is a small bayside fishing resort. Tourist attractions include a surfing beach and an off-shore reef supporting sea grasses and sponges - a favourite haunt of divers. Nearby Maslin Beach has the distinction of being the first in Australia to officially welcome nude bathing. Leaflets are available to guide hikers through the bush trails of the Aldinga Scrub Conservation Park.
