Albert Rivera (musician)

Albert Rivera (born July 23, 1983) is a Tenor saxophonist, composer and educator.

Albert first picked up the clarinet at age 10. He studied at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in New York City where he was under the mentorship of Jazz Tubist Bob Stewart which allowed him to turn his attention to the saxophone. He entered New School University where he studied with many legends in jazz including Reggie Workman, Chico Hamilton, Charlie Persip, Billy Haper, and many others including Junior Mance with whom he later performed at the Litchfield Jazz Festival in 2005.

He has worked closely with Litchfield Performing Arts as the Assistant Musical Director of the Jazz Summer Camp (2005-2006) and as the Camp Registrar/Administrator and is currently on the teaching faculty at Litchfield(2007)

Albert has recorded a new album "Re-Introduction" on a new jazz label based out of Atlanta, Georgia. The Album features Ralph Peterson on Drums, Christian Scott on Trumpet, Luques Curtis on Bass, Zaccai Curtis on Piano, Jimmy Greene on Tenor saxophone, Nick Roseboro on Trumpet and Andrew Lipow on Guitar.

Both Zaccai Curtis and Luques Curtis have worked closly together in many other ensembles as well as a number of notable recordings. Both brothers are found in recording by Christian Scott, Donald Harrison, and others. Zaccai leads his band Insight along with his brother.

Albert's working Quartet includes Grammy Award Winner Luques Curtis on Bass, with his older brother Zaccai Curtis, winner of the Connecticut Culture and Tourism Grant as well as 4 time winner of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers Jazz Composers award on Piano. Drummer Adam Christgau completes the ensemble. Jersey born Drummer John Iannuzzi has recently been found performing on a frequent basis with the Quartet.
