Ala Kahakai National Historic Trail is a 175 mile long trail located on the main island of Hawai'i. It is not a "trail" in the traditional sense in that it is not continuous but rather made up of several broken segments along the coastline of the main island of Hawai'i. The trail was established to interpret the traditional Native Hawaiian culture along with the natural geology of the island. Currently managed under the National Park Service, the trail was established in 2000 by an act of the United States Congress.
