[edit] Summary
This series of 5 panels were excerpted from the April 16 & April 17, 1951 Li'l Abner strips. Although this is still presumably under copyright, inclusion here qualifies for Fair Use under US Copyright law because:
- It is used for a non-commercial and hopefully educational purpose.
- It is illustrative of the subject:
-
- It is a drawing of Al Capp
- The drawing is by Al Capp.
- It gives an insight into Capp's sense of humor.
- It gives an insight into how Capp views the comic strip business.
- It mentions Milton Caniff, who is also mentioned in the article on Capp.
- It is only a small part of the overall work, i.e. 5 panels from an estimated 65,000 panels.
- It should not affect the commercial viability of the copyright.
