Prime Minister 'Ata Bay al-Ayyubi at the courtyard of the Azm Palace in 1943. He is standing second from right. Next to him stand French officers and behind him (in fez) stands Sadiq Ghrawi, the affluent merchant of Damascus who funded the nationalist movement during the years of the French Mandate.
