- It is a mistake, but it is so prevalent mistake that it is now the norm... Both spellings entered English through Russian. In official (governmental) documents (see for example www.chechnya.gov.ru) Ахмат (i.e. Akhmat) is used. I don't think that Kadyrov worried about English spelling of his name. In non-official Russian, -ад (-ad) is more used than -ат (-at). There are also -ед (-ed) and -ет (-et) used often. In English, -ad outperforms -at even more. Therefore, I think we should use "Akhmad Kadyrov" as the article title, but specify that official name is Akmat Kadyrov. I think there should be some mention in the article about accusations against Kadyrov's pro-Moscow militia regarding human-rights abuses against fellow Chechens.
