But even jokes are part of the culture an encyclopedia is supposed to document. As long as the joke started in society, which the number of Google hits proves to my satisfaction, it should be noted somewhere in the 'pedia, altho not necessarily in its own article. The whole point about 'pedias is that they should strive for completeness. There is nothing worse than trying to look something up only to find it unqualified. user:sjc

Regarding the claim that the term originated with "The Wizard of Id": When was that? Comic strips generally -- and "Id" especially -- have been known to recycle jokes that have been circulating previously. I heard the "aibohphobia" joke sometime in or prior to 1985 (and had the impression I'd heard it from its originator, but he may simply have been quoting it, or it could have been invented independently several times.) -- Doctroid 15:06 10 Dec 2003 (UTC)
