Born in Sapporo, the island of Hokkaido, Japan. Moved to Riverdale, New York at the age of four and attended P.S. 81. After returning to Tokyo, Japan she spent eight years at Christian Academy in Japan.
Studied biology at the University of Tokyo, but took a year off when selected as Clarion Girl 2000 with a scholarship to create a documentary film. During 1999-2000 she partnered with renowned producer Kazuyoshi Okuyama to film YANCHA, a behind-the-scenes dynamic that portrayed the personal life of Okuyama and his ailing mother during the turmoil of Japanese film studio Shochiku's dramatic shakeup in 1998, which resulted in the immediate firing of then CEO Toru Okuyama and senior managing director Kazuyoshi Okuyama.
Hazuki Ai had been in several commercials and TV shows since her graduation from the University of Tokyo. "Not that I don't like being in front of the camera, I feel like I belong behind it," she said in an interview. Is fluent in both Japanese and English. Used to be a student at the School for Strings in Manhattan. Has a master of science degree from New York University.
