Agio Oros is a Greek Orthodox monastery in Northern Greece.

Located in Halkadiki, Greece. It is the only place in Greece that is completely dedicated to prayer and worship of God.[1]

The monastery is an autonomous part of Greece.

According to legend, the place is named after a giant killed by Poseidon.

This area was populated during the time of Classical Greece, but was almost uninhabited after the third century BC.

While the Virgin Mary was traveling with Saint John, a storm forced them into the area. Mary asked God for the land and the reply was: "Let this place be your lot, your garden and your paradise, as well as a salvation, a haven for those who seek salvation". Mount Athos is considered as "The Garden of the Virgin Mary". The Monastery was created in the fifth century.[2]
