No one seems to have mentioned just how badly this plant stinks (or at least the purple variety.) They are commonly used for landscaping in Southern California, and their skunklike, rotten, musky odor is quite distinct and detectable up to a mile downwind. Carrying so much as a single blossom in any sort of bag will make that bag smell for days. I absolutely hate those plants!
