[edit] NISPOM is not a sanitization method

I just wanted to point out that DoD 5220.22-M (NISPOM, National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual) is not a data sanitization method. The manual does not even specify any data sanitization methods. It simply states that sanitization is required. See the citations in National Industrial Security Program if you don't believe me. The idea that the NISPOM specifies how you have to do the sanitization appears to be a popular misconception. So equating a USAF sanitization standard to the NISPOM is incorrect.
