Aegidius or Ægidius was a Gallo-Roman promoted as magister militum in Gaul.

- Aegidius of Assisi (died 1262), one of the original companions of St. Francis of Assisi
- Aegidius of Viterbo (1470-1532), Italian cardinal, theologian, orator, humanist and poet

In Ægidius the Æ merely a grapheme formed from the letters a and e, represented in print by a ligature; though it has been promoted to the full status of a letter in the alphabets of many languages, it is not a variant spelling in English.
