Talk:Adobe Contribute
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The NPOV warning is posted on this article, but nothing is explained on this talk page. Can anyone speak to whats in dispute in this article? Joe JJC 22:09, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
I didn't add the NPOV warning, however, the NPOV was apparent to me as well. I've attempted to clean it up. Also, the statement "Dynamic websites that work on content from a database, e.g. MySQL, will not gain much from Contribute. Although it is possible to edit such websites, it is more pain than it is worth" is untrue. I've developed a number of sites incorporating both a database and Contribute and the process of integrating the site with Contribute is the same whether the site has a database or not. 63.144.93.66 15:15, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
I found the intial year it the software was released from their financials report. Not sure if it's cited correctly, though.
Also, in the second paragraph, 'popular' sounds a bit strong. Could it simply read:
- Contribute is used primarily by non-programmers, as it employs an intuitive WYSIWYG...

I agree with Joe JJC and have made the change. I also added a point in favor of Contribute, namely that it allows administrators to set different permissions for different users. This is one of the primary features that motivated my institution to buy it. (And also now there are the same number of pro and con points.)
Additionally, I added a mention of Contribute Publishing Server to the extensions list. It probably doesn't deserve a separate article but it does add important and useful functionality for sites with many users. Please feel free to change or remove if links to corporate product pages are frowned upon. Swartzer 03:20, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] CS3 version = 4?
Does anyone know whether or not Contribute CS3 and Contribute 4 are in fact the same product with different version titles? Cdmorris 15:37, 16 April 2007 (UTC)cdmorris
I wonder if it possible to edit web pages with Contribute even if they have not originally been made with Dreamweaver or GoLive. Can contribute edit pages made with Frontpage for example? Anyone know?
- Yes, but your milage may vary with the extra code that Frontpage puts in. --Johnska7 19:07, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Contribute and scripting languages
Does anyone know if/how Contribute handles PHP or other scripts? If a web developer places menu/header/footer/etc. codes in the a web page, can a novice edit these pages without harming the scripts? (Assuming the novice is told what not to mess with, and then doesn't.) The answer to this would be nice to include in the main page. Lee 14:48, 29 August 2007 (UTC)
- I would be more than happy to add this to the article. Where would be appropriate? I'm guessing not under the pros, as it can stand alone. Should it be a new section? 24.72.150.195 01:58, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
