Adam the Alien is the oft-used internet alias of writer, actor and filmmaker Adam J. Manley. He was born on December 16, 1984 in Clackamas, Oregon and - though still proudly loyal to his Oregonian roots - resides in Tacoma, Washington as of September 2007.

[edit] Username
The username "Adam the Alien" was first conceived by Manley late in junior high. Since the fifth grade, he'd operated under his first AOL screen name, "Anpao Xmen" - "Anpao" in reference to a favorite book, and "Xmen" due to his love of the X-Men comic books. Unfortunately, Manley became increasingly frustrated with even long-term friends calling him "Anpao" in chat rooms, even after he'd frequently told them his real name. The frustration with his original screen name was furthered by a constant misinterpretation of the "Xmen" portion of the name by unsavory and overly libidinous individuals.
These factors encouraged Manley to seek a new name. Drawing from a lifelong interest in astronomy and science fiction, as well as an appreciation for alliteration that he would not consciously realize until later in life, he came up with his present username.
[edit] Anpao
In writing the above section, Manley discovered there is currently no Wikipedia article about Anpao, a book by Jamake Highwater which combines many Native American legends. Paul J. Wigowsky, Manley's second and fifth grade teacher, introduced him to this book.
Manley was appalled to find that the entry for Anpao leads only to a paltry stub about the entity the book was named for. He plans on correcting that when he has the time.
[edit] AOL
While he continues to use AIM, Manley abandoned AOL years ago. He believes it to be of the Devil, like all things that become too "user friendly" by becoming impossible to use.
[edit] Vista
Manley refuses to upgrade to Windows Vista for the same reason he was glad to be rid of AOL.
[edit] Results of the change in username
Under the new name, he has not had any confusion regarding the use of his real first name.
He has, however, continued to recieve requests for cyber sex.
[edit] YouTube
Manley first joined YouTube after reading about it in an article about Brooke Brodack he saw in The Oregonian. At first, he uploaded just a few projects he deemed "current enough" for people to see. He later returned to his older videos, however, beginning to upload videos in the order they were created, starting with videos he made during his senior year of high school in 2003. He gave up on the effort to keep them in chronological order, however, when he opted to begin a video blog.
[edit] Video Blog
Just prior to his move to Tacoma from his family's farm outside of Canby, Oregon, Manley began a video blog on his preexisting YouTube account. Though consistently late in uploading these videos, he continues to do it. He thinks it's fun, and it gives him a boost when he's working on projects that take longer to complete. The video blog may also be found mirrored on Manley's Myspace and Facebook accounts.
[edit] Vlog
Manley prefers the term "video blog" to "vlog" because he thinks "vlog" sounds silly and doesn't roll off the tounge very well.
[edit] Sleep deprivation
Manley doesn't generally like to go to sleep, or admit when he needs it until he's completely unable to stay awake. As such, it's best to assume that this entire profile was written at insane hours long after the author should have gone to sleep.
This may explain a lot. But probably not enough.
