[edit] History
The band was formed in 1994, by Andrew Ryan, Simon Struthers, Matt Maguire and Michael Lake, from Perth, Western Australia. At the time of their formation the members were underaged, in accordance with Western Australia's liquor and gaming laws, which allowed them three years to evolve independently before being able to play their first licensed gigs.
The bands early influences include Pavement, Polvo, Monk, Sun Ra, Tortoise and Palace. These influnences are apparent on their 1998 debut release, Domino Comfort, which was recorded in the confines of the abandoned Fremantle Prison, Western Australia. The album was released on the back of the band winning the national 'Push Over Festival' on the ABC's Recovery program.
In 2000 guitarist, Michael Lake departed from the band and was replaced by local Perth stalwart Geoff Symons (who also plays alongside Lake in the Perth band Mukaizake strangely enough).
Next up for Adam Said Galore was the release of their long awaited full length album, The Driver is Red, which was released in March 2001 through Redline Records Australia. The Driver is Red was recorded in just one week at Loop Studio in the band's home town.
Adam Said Galore acquired the skills of Chicago based sound engineer Casey Rice who has worked the desk with the likes of Tortoise and Liz Phair for the project. Of the recording process, Matt Maguire (drums) says,
"Laying down our songs live in such a short time period created an atmosphere of mission like intensity and focus, it also created some very manic moments which were captured and will remain authentic to this recording."
2002 saw the release of the band's follow up album Of Lost Roads which was produced by band member Simon Struthers, which is no doubt testament to the fact that their third release Of Lost Roads, comes the closest yet to capturing the dark spirit that fuses this band together. The album was included in the Triple J list of best albums of 2002.
2003 saw drummer, Matt Maguire, win a WAMi Award for Most Popular Local Original Drummer.
Whilst the band did not officially split they did not undertake any live performances since 2003 with each of the members becoming involved in a number of other projects. Andrew Ryan as the entertainment coordinator at the Hyde Park Hotel and putting on nights at most of the original local music venues currently operating in Perth. He also presents a weekly program on local radio station RTRFM. Simon Struthers has continued to produce records for a number of local and Australian artists and at the 2005 WAMi Awards, Struthers was nominated for Best Record Producer/Engineer.
Adam Said Galore have recently announced that they would be performing three live shows in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth in August and September, 2007, on the back of their new single, "No Animals". A second single, "Rock to Myself", will the be released followed by a national tour of Australia in November and December, 2007 with the band's new album to be released in early to mid 2008.
