Ace Ventura

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ace Ventura is a fictional character, played by Jim Carrey in the films Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls. The character was also voiced by Michael Daingerfield Hall in the animated television series Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.

Ace Ventura is an eccentric and histrionic detective who specializes in cases involving pet animals. Ace possesses extreme vanity, extraordinary powers of observation, and equally great powers of deduction. He has a tendency to use foul language and to make vulgar jokes, as in the scene where he manually moves the halves of his rump to simulate a speaking mouth. He often draws complex, correct conclusions, but does not reveal them until a critical moment. He is sexually promiscuous, talkative, dedicated, and clever.

Many of the character's mannerisms (like his laugh) are drawn from another character Jim Carrey played when he was on In Living Color, Fire Marshal Bill.

He lives in a Miami apartment that, ironically, forbids pets, so he has to hide his pets from his landlord, Mr. Schickadance, whenever he comes by. The character of Ace was created by screenwriter Jack Bernstein. He had wanted to do a comedic version of Sherlock Holmes, and when watching "stupid pet tricks" on Late Night With David Letterman, got the idea for a pet detective.

A third installment, featuring the son of the original Ace, is scheduled for a 2008 release. Jim Carrey, however, is not involved in this entry. Ace's father is also introduced in this installment,
