Accounting Machine
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
An accounting machine was a small computer oriented towards commercial activities such as ledger processing. Derived from mechanical calculators electromechanical accounting machines were widespread from the 1950s to 1980s, but were rendered obsolete by the availability of low-cost computers such as the IBM PC.
This type of machine is generally distinct from unit record equipment, and includes ledger-card systems as well as more general small computers such as the LGP-30.
