[edit] Early life

Mercado was born in Pampanga, Philippines and later moved to London, England at the age of 12. She is the eldest among the four children in their family. Her father left them at her age of 8 which was in the year of 2003, giving no financial support. He even divorced her mum in an illegal process, without letting her know about it. Her Mum, Norena Soliman, is a nurse and a social worker, is the one who has stood then to be their parent since then. She's really doing the best she can to give them a better future. AC Mercado said, " I'm too proud to say it's a family, although, the man whom the Lord has given us to be our father left us in 2003. I've noticed we became happier and felt more contented in life when he left us". AC is turning 14 on the 8th of July 2008. At the age of 10, she already knew how to drive a motorcycle. She said, "I really surprised my mother when she saw me driving the motorcycle of my auntie. As such, few months after, my mum bought one for me. I’m very pleased to hear her every time she’s saying to her friends that I am one of her joy and pride. I tried as well to learn driving a car. One day when my mum got visitors, I started our car’s engine, which she caught me and said, it wasn’t yet time for me".

[edit] Education

Mercado attended her Year 6 and 7 in St. Scholastica's Academy, City of San Fernando, Pampanga, but later moved to London, which is now currently in Year 9 at Canon Palmer Catholic School. Mercado was also awarded as the Star Performer in Canon Palmer Catholic School.

[edit] Life in London

According to her she really missed her family, friends, old classmates and old teachers in the Philippines so much. It was on the 22nd of January 2007 when she left them. It has been more than a year now. AC said, "Anyway, my mum says, we’re going home in the Philippines just a vacation of 4 weeks in July, so I’m looking forward to it". They migrated in London for the aspiration of a greener pasture. AC is hoping to be a nurse like her mum in the future and to be professional as well in the field of the computer technology. According to AC, "I also have passion in music, has good voice a bit. I too love dancing. Surfing the internet is also my habit. Just the basic thing how to use the computer was taught to us in our primary Montessori school in the Philippines, the rest of them just came up to me because of my interest in it. I also love photography, but in here, I admire my auntie Ching, for her being professional in taking photos. One day, I’m going for a course in it. Swimming also interests me. When we were in the Philippines, we were mostly in the resorts and beaches. Cooking, yeah I love it. I got more confident in it when I got here as we have no housemaid to cook for us here unlike way back home. So in here, I have also learned how to do other household chores like how to keep the house clean, and attending our laundry. Honestly, I wasn’t doing these things before. Everything was ready for us. The food to eat, our clothes were already ironed just ready to wear, and the house was always cleaned because of the hard work of our housemaid".

[edit] People's Impressions

AC said that, "People always misinterpret me. They say I’m so quiet that doesn’t want to socialize with others, but the truth is I’m not. It’s normal, isn’t it? not to smile and not to talk to someone whom we don’t know. People might think I’m crazy if I would do so".

[edit] Religion

AC came from a very religious family, that’s why, her mum moved them to St. Scholastica’s Academy during her year 5 from the Montessori school so as to be more aware of all the religious things. This school is being run by the nuns.

AC said, "To live in London honestly, it’s a culture shock for me. No swearing, no bullying especially in the catholic school where I came from. I thought in here is also quite the same there, as they’re just like catholic school, where students are expected to be well-behaved.In our country, when people knew that you are in the catholic school, it will automatically come up into their minds that you are a very kind individual, that have respect in yourself and unto others as you have great faith and big fear in God."

[edit] Lifestyle in Philippines

The other thing that AC really misses in the Philippines is their house, their flat, and their garden. It’s completely got emptied since they’ve move in London. Just once in a month, their aunties are going there to clean them and water the plants in the garden.

AC said, "Now, here I am London living a new life for the fulfilment of all our dreams."
