Abrasion are a death metal trio form in Melbourne, Australia in 1996 by vocalist and guitarist Adam Shirley and drummer Paul Toth. The current line-up features Shirley, Toth and Nick Rackem on bass. Since the band's 2001 independent release Anti Population, they have developed a loyal cult following in Melbourne's underground metal scene,[citation needed] which was also built up from their frequent live shows at popular Melbourne venues such as the Tote and Esplanade Hotel.[citation needed] Songs from Anti Population and Violent Core Traction have also been featured on Triple J's heavy metal music program "Full Metal Racket" has well as Melbourne radio station 3RRR.[citation needed]
