[edit] Useless template

Why was this template created? There's a category tree which provides better structure. The template brings nothing new or interesting and only clutters the articles. Pavel Vozenilek 14:29, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

It was created as a result of a suggestion made by an anonymous editor at Talk:List of articles about abortion by country. The list itself was originally created because another user at Template talk:Abortion expressed concerns that readers unfamiliar with Wikipedia's system of categorization would have trouble navigating through all the subcategories to find articles on specific countries. Thus, all the "Abortion by country" articles are linked from the central location of the list, which is itself top-listed in Category:Abortion by country. Template:Abortion was at one time very disorganized. Too many links on too broad an array of topics were crammed into a small space and the result was more overwhelming than functional. I took the step of breaking Template:Abortion up into smaller, more thematic navboxes. I hope this avoids the same pitfall that befell Template:Abortion when it tried to wear too many hats. -Severa 01:07, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
