The Abdominizer was an abdominal exerciser invented in 1982 and marketed through infomercials by the Fitness Quest corporation. It was an almost flat, saddle-like piece of thermoformed plastic, about 2 by 3 feet, with handles and a depression for the tailbone. Forty million were sold in the United States by 1990.
Many people were injured while using them as snow sleds, and in 1984 a warning label was affixed advising against this use. Fitness Quest has since discontinued this model in favor of abdominal exercisers with higher profit margins.
