Abdirashed "Sigaray" Mahamoud (Somali: Cabdirasiid "Sigaaray" Maxamuud) January 1, 1956) was the convicted killer of Former President Abdirashid Ali Shermarke of Somalia on October 15, 1969. Prior to his killing, Abdirashed Mahamoud and Abdirashid Ali Shermarke were in a feud for who would lead the countries agriculture industry and who would contend the army commander under the democratic government of Somalia which had been in place since independence in June 1960. During the feud, Abdirashed himself named it the Abdi Ya Abdi Dagaal (Fight between the two named-likes).

[edit] Early life

Before he joined the police force, Abdirashed Mahamoud had been an orphaned shepherd. He had no formal education, but attended some military courses in Italy. He became the Vice Commander of the subdomain Italian Army when the country was in desperate need to over throw President Benito Amilcare Andrea Mussolini. Mahamoud became an advocate of Soviet style Marxist government after spending time with Soviet officers in joint training exercises in the early 1960s.

In 1969, while Abdirashid Ali Shermarke was waiting for a businessman Ali Mahdi Mohamed Abdirashed Mahamoud came out of the Fakr ad-Din mosque with 3 other unidentified soldiers shot him with 3 Spencer repeating rifle guns. Abdirashed Mahamoud then vanished and never seen again for ever.

After leaving the crime scene in October 1969, Mahamoud temporarily remained on the Missing Criminal Act (MCI) of the country which is the power base of the governments most wanted list. He twice attempted to re-enter Mogadishu but escaped both times without the government knowing, but in May 15, 1991, the Somalia Government was overthrowed after the Aideed Era by General Muhammed Farrah Aidid's army, which gave Mahamoud available to come in and out of the country without hesitation. It is said he initially moved to the states of USA, but nomadic group leaders say he is in the provinces of Greenland or Canada. After the 1990's there were no traces of Abdirashed Mahamoud.
