I don't think it's correct to say that the road terminates at Aldermaston Wharf. Another part of the road runs further north from the A4 to Pangbourne. I suppose at one time there was one continuous road, but when the A4 became more developed, the A340 became fragmented. Alan Pascoe 20:39, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
