Description

A Douglas A-4C Skyhawk (BuNo 147829) from detachment N of Marine headquarters and maintenance squadron 15 (H&MS-15) Angels armed with an AIM-9B Sidewinder air-to-air missile, in 1965/66. The H&MS-15 Det. N was assigned to Anti-Submarine Carrier Air Group 57 (CVSG-57) for a deployment to Vietnam from 12 August 1965 to 23 March 1966 aboard the U.S. anti-submarine aircraft carrier USS Hornet (CVS-12). H&MS-15 Det. N flew attack missions and provided fighter cover for the Hornet. The Det. N A-4Cs kept their tail code "YV" for this deployment, not adopting CVSG-57s tail code "NV". A Sikorsky SH-3A Sea King of helicopter anti-submarine squadron HS-2 Golden Falcons is parked next to Hornet´s island.
