The article describes the evolution of the meaning of the International Women's Day in the USSR as in the late Soviet times the holiday became less political. While originally it was to signify the liberation of women from oppression that allegedly could have occurred only in the Socialist state, the holiday turned into just an occasion for men to express their love to the women - somewhat similar to Western Mother's Day and St Valentine's Day mixed together. This is best demonstrated with evolution of the Soviet postcard illustrated by this image/

This apolitical late Soviet postcard is given right next to the PD early Soviet highly politicized image thus illustrating vividly the evolution of the holiday's perception, rendering the image crucial.

The alternative image in the particular context could only be a different postcard of the same time which would also be non-free.

It is thereby asserted that such usage in a particular context qualifies under the fairuse clause of the US copyright law and the Wikipedia fairuse policy.
