[edit] Anti-Vandalism

Thanks for helping in the fight against vandalism. Have you considered the benefits of registering an account on Wikipedia? Thanks again! —Signed by KoЯnfan71 My Talk Sign Here! 21:26, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

You've put some thought into this haven't you?

Well, let me tell you something about some things you told me:

"* No forgotten passwords, no e-mail confirmation, none of the spam that inevitably follows e-mail confirmation, no losing your account when single user login comes in just because someone on the Urdu Wikipedia has an account with the same name."

There is a way to recover lost passwords. There is no spam in the e-mail confirmation (trust me). I have 2 accounts with the same name on 2 Wikipedias (English and Spanish, both Kornfan71) and have had no problems (I just tried logging them both in).

"* No userpage (yes, this is a benefit; no temptation to waste time designing pretty pages, userboxes, etc). Inability to customize signatures (along similar lines, also a benefit)."

I know many Wikipedians that have not made a userpage or signature, and IPs can still make a signature in code right in the edit.

"* No annoying RfA nomination offers, requests to join WikiProjects, spam about deletion discussions you're not interested in, and so on."

I have only gotten 2 of these types of things from the same user, and normally that kind of thing doesn't happen. You are usually not notified about AfDs on your talk page, or we would all have 20 comments a day.

"* No chance that you'll register your real name and later regret it due to harassment. Vastly lower chance of harassment in the first place."

If you think beforehand, you won't register your name (like me).

"* No autoblocks. If you're accidentally blocked, as productive anonymous contributors are liable to be, you just reconnect with another IP address, rather than having to waste time appealing block."

If you don't do anything wrong, you won't have any problems.

"* Similarly, if you're falsely accused of sockpuppetry (happens now and then) you can forget all about the accusations the next day when your IP address changes and you never see the old one again."

You can only forget it if you have a dynamic IP. Most likely, you'd have a static IP.

"* No editcountitis. Since your contributions are spread across hundreds of IPs that you can't remember, neither you nor anyone else can count them and run stupid scripts on them."

Yet again, only if you have a dynamic IP. And who cares about the edit count? Mine sucks and I'm not complaining.

"* It's a nice relief to everyone else to see an anonymous user doing something useful for once."

Yeah, that's why I said this in the first place. However, when you're a brand new Wikipedian, someone in the Welcoming committee will be aware of it and thank you (well, I would).

"* You're not tempted to upload any images, thus you won't get piles of bot warnings and all your hard work undone by admins with scripts next time the image use policy is changed."

I never have been tempted, except once. I saw all of the guidelines and said "Screw this!"

"* Nobody assumes you're an administrator when you're not, and pelts you with requests to do stuff you can't do."

Mark your page as being an Admin. That's how we find them. Wikipedians that have been active know the drills.

So, there is my argument. I like getting in discussions like this. Thanks. —Signed by KoЯnfan71 My Talk Sign Here! 22:03, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

Innocent mistakes like that happen. I had one like that. There was no warning, just a little, "Hey man, you messed up." —Signed by KoЯnfan71 My Talk Sign Here! 23:54, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

Welcome, and thank you for experimenting with the page Nylon on Wikipedia. Your test worked, and it has been reverted or removed. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia. If you would like to experiment further, please use the sandbox. Thank you. If this is a shared IP address, and you didn't make any unconstructive edits, consider creating an account for yourself so you can avoid further irrelevant warnings.
OfficeGirl made a mistake. You fixed the vandalism, she, no doubt with the best intentions, put it back. No one is perfect. I rolled back her edit. Carry on. And, good work. --AnonEMouse (squeak) 22:47, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

Hello. Regarding the recent revert you made to Windsor Castle: You may already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit was inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox. They can also be used to give a stern warning to a vandal when they've been previously warned. Thank you. Tiptoety 22:04, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Barnstar!

The Anti-Vandalism Barnstar

The RickK Anti-Vandalism Barnstar
IP addresses have a bad reputation as vandals. However, there is always that lone IP address that tries to revert the vandalism instead of causing it. Don't think you are alone, I was one too. Keep up the vandal-fighting! Oh, and have you considered signing up for an account? NASCAR Fan24(talkcontribs) 22:11, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Regarding your message on my talk page

First of all please do not Template the Regulars, me. Also, i was just trying to help inform you how to warn users properly. I apologize for trying to help. Have a nice day. Tiptoety 22:17, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Oh for god's sake, not another barnstar.

Why would you be upset by getting a barnstar? You should be proud because they are only awarded to people who really deserve them. NASCAR Fan24(radio me!) 22:17, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Mea Culpa

I guess I should have stayed offline yesterday until I could have a good night's sleep or something! (checking again to make sure I am on your TALK page...yes, I think so). What is the protocol here, since I have written on your user page yesterday as if it were your talk page. Do I remove it? Do you? Is it kosher to move that text here to the talk page? Do I do that? Do you? (I'm not feeling very bold right now.) So sorry. So sorry. OfficeGirl 16:11, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
