Warning This IP address is a school IP and that of public terminals too and is also a widely-shared one. BE CAREFUL WHEN BLOCKING

Attention:

This IP address, 84.45.219.185/Archive 1, is used by Enta and may be shared by multiple users using public terminals. In the case of organizations using proxy servers, this IP address may in fact represent many users at many physical computers.

For this reason a message intended for one person may be received by another. If you are editing from this address and are frustrated by irrelevant messages, you can avoid them by creating an account for yourself. (In some cases you may temporarily be unable to create an account due to efforts to fight vandalism in which case we invite you to try again at a later time or from a different computer.)

Caution should be used when blocking this IP or reverting its contributions without checking - if a block is needed, administrators should consider using a soft block with the template {{anonblock|optional comment}} as the block reason.

Your request to be unblocked has been granted for the following reason(s):

Apparently it's not a proxy. -- John Reaves (talk) 05:31, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

CheckUser evidence has determined that this IP address (or network) has been used abusively.
This address (or network) has been blocked temporarily or permanently to prevent further abuse.

In extreme cases, an entire network may be blocked to prevent an abusive user from continually changing their IP address in order to evade blocks or abusing multiple accounts. If you are a registered user and are seeing this message, please follow these instructions.

Administrators: CheckUsers are privy to confidential system logs not accessible by the public or administrators due to the Wikimedia Foundation's privacy policy, and therefore must be consulted before this block can be removed.

This IP should not be blocked indefinitely, it's shared!!

The {{helpme}} tag is not to be used for unblock requests or protests. The correct tag is {{unblock}}, however admins are unlikely to overturn a checkuser block. If you wish to complain about it or get the block lifted, please take it up with a Wikipedia CheckUser.—WAvegetarian (talk) 09:19, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

{helpme}

A question.... can someone ask the checkuser to overturn this block?? There's one good user on this IP, not that he understands much about Wikipedia.

If you have an account you can ask a CheckUser by picking one from the list and emailing them. User:Jpgordon was the blocker in this case, so perhaps email them.--Commander Keane 11:49, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

{{helpme}}

Will someone please archive this page for me?? and ask the checkuser to overturn the block??

I'm not going to archive the page, because 90% of the stuff is important notices to other users (admins etc) in relation to this specific IP Address. Also, if you want to have full control of your talk page and say what goes where and when, I suggest creating an account. You share this IP with many other people, we don't usually do anything on IP talk pages because of debates that break out because two people who share an IP think they both own the talk page.
Secondly, I will re-paste (and edit slightly) what Commander Keane has said above, below. This is the procedure that needs to be followed in regard to IP unblocking after CheckUser.
If you have an account you can ask a CheckUser by picking one from the list and emailing them. User:Jpgordon was the blocker in this case, so perhaps email him here. --User:Commander Keane|Commander Keane]] 11:49, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

Place the {{helpme}} back if you need anything else. Thanks! — Deon555talkdesksign here! 12:11, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

{helpme} OK, a user emailed Jpgordon, can you let him know on his talk page. This IP is shared - sorry about the mindless vandals who think it's funny to mess up our enjoyment of this site - but doesnt the blocking policy say IP's cant be blocked indefinitely?? this one however, isn't an open proxy! it's registered to ENTA.

I will let him know on his talk page.--Commander Keane 13:32, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

This blocked user (block log | autoblocks | rangeblocks | unblock | contribs | deleted contribs) has asked to be unblocked, but an administrator has reviewed and declined this request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy). Do not remove this unblock request while you are blocked.

Request reason: "This IP should not be blocked indefinitely, as it is not an open proxy, and blocking policy says IPs CAN'T be blocked indefinitely unless they are an open proxy. Can someone ask the checkuser to reduce the block to 2 weeks?? I don't know who was abusing this site, which was presumably the reason for the block, but it won't happen again. Because the schoolchildren are on exam leave, they have been using these public terminals. Please can a checkuser reduce the block."

Decline reason: "I'll run this past Jpgordon, if he's not already aware of it. In the meantime, this IP address was previously blocked as an open proxy, and also previously blocked anon-only as a result of checkuser investigation -- that a checkuser then came back to turn off the anon-only option implies there's something quite abusive going on, here, and I'm hesitant to consider unblocking without knowing more. Sorry. If you have an account, you can email Jpgordon here; if not, you can email unblock-en-l, instead. – Luna Santin (talk) 09:08, 11 June 2007 (UTC)"

Please make any further unblock requests by using the {{unblock}} template. However, abuse of the template may result in your talk page being protected.

Hi there, my IP's suddenly changed. It was some other IP in this range, now I've got this one. I usually have an account, but can't edit Wikipedia right now. Anyone able to get this ban on the IP lifted?? My IP rotates now and then... I don't know why the IP is banned from editing Confused, Anonymous --84.45.219.185 10:08, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi, I am going to contact the blocking admin to see exactly what is going on. THat might take some time, sorry for the inconvenience. -- lucasbfr talk 10:24, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

Jp gordon asked for an explanation, so here's one: Remember when you blocked this IP address?? Well, it is and it isn't an open proxy. Someone had been running their own copy of PHProxy 0.5 - look it up on Google - it's a fairly popular script that's widely distributed on the Net - (which caused people from elsewhere in the world to edit Wikipedia as sockpuppets!)

The IP covers a fair bit of North-West England (up to Walton, Liverpool) so collateral damage will happen as a fair amount of people use IPs in this range. If there were sockpuppet/vandals, well someone was exploiting an open proxy on it.

Please do not block the IP address, as I've resolved the problem with the operator of the proxy -he's simply moved it to another server, on another IP, not on our network.

No IP in the 84.45.208.0 - 84.45.223.255 range should be blocked for too long, seeing as the IPs are dynamic IP addresses, and will rotate anyway.

This IP does go around a bit, like all IPs in the range above.

This IP was an open proxy for a short time, but now that's gone, you can't really block the IP for too long, seeing as IPs in 84.45.208.0 - 84.45.223.255 rotate frequently.

Let the checkuser who blocked us know. AN Other,--84.45.219.185 10:25, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
