Your offer to search the Irish Times archive is intriguing; clearly if you can get back in the past it would be extremely useful and helpful to get some history on the debate. Of interest would be to compare attitudes and the terms used over time: are 'neologisms' such as 'IONA' or 'Anglo-Irish Isles' more common that previously? Or less? If you could find anything on that sort of topic it would certianly help clarify things.

As for 'British and Irish Isles'... I doubt that page will last; it will almost definately become a redirect into 'British Isles'. --Robdurbar 21:43, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Oh, by the way, you didn't explicitly give a 'support' or 'oppose' to the merge, though your stance is fairly clear from your comments. You don't have to, but if you feel you would like to do so then just add either support or oppose/disagree before your comment (you can embolden it by using ''' on either side of the text e.g. '''bold''' becomes bold. --Robdurbar 21:47, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
