[edit] Neuter Pronouns
Douglas Hofstadter wrote this wonderful piece for Sci-Am in the 80s about neuter gender. You might be interested: http://www.cs.virginia.edu/~evans/cs655/readings/purity.html
Its not obvious he's talking about neuter gender at first, and you might be a little shocked by the language he's using, but thats the point.
As for using he or she...its commonly accepted practice to alternate for neuter gender. No style has preference in modern English or wikipedia, so your edit wasn't really justified. Brentt 01:22, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
- Regarding Topology and the donut joke: it should be noted that that particular passage has been in the article since April 2004, three years. It certainly could seem an inopportune combination, but it's been there for quite awhile. Shenme 01:50, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
