NFU stands for "Non-free use": See Wikipedia:Non-free content. A good starting point for basics for image retention can be found at Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion#Images and media. "Asking the owner" or stating "I got permission to use this" must be substantiated, you would need to file for an "OTRS" proof of permission, which can be done through [Meta permission].
