[edit] Parrot

Please stop adding nonsense to Wikipedia. It is considered vandalism. If you would like to experiment, use the sandbox. Thank you. --18:10, 7 March 2006 (UTC)

Please stop. If you continue to vandalize pages, as you did to Anus, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. --Sam Blanning (formerly Malthusian) (talk) 15:24, 9 March 2006 (UTC)

You're still inserting your own opinion into articles (both Anus and Parrot) acting as if it were fact. Encyclopaedias have to be written from a neutral point of view. --Sam Blanning (formerly Malthusian) (talk) 15:32, 9 March 2006 (UTC)
As far as I can see the article agrees with you. It says in the intro: "The term "parrot" can be used in either the narrow sense of the parrot family Psittacidae or the broad sense of the order Psittaciformes." If you have any other concerns you might want to raise them on the article's talk page. --Sam Blanning (formerly Malthusian) (talk) 15:37, 9 March 2006 (UTC)
Just adding 'many people think' is what's called a weasel term. There might be something you could add here - parrots are pretty creatures in my opinion, but you need a source of some kind to verify that this is a fact. Have any respected ornithologists said that the parrot is the prettiest bird? Alternatively, are parrots popular subjects for paintings or some other artform? If so, say which - something along the lines of "X referred to parrots as "the prettiest bird" or "The brightly-coloured plumage has made parrots a popular subject for artists, such as Y and Z". --Sam Blanning (formerly Malthusian) (talk) 15:53, 9 March 2006 (UTC)
P.S. Please read the three revert rule - repeatedly inserting an edit can get you blocked. Work with editors, not against them. --Sam Blanning (formerly Malthusian) (talk) 15:55, 9 March 2006 (UTC)
"Attractiveness" in that context meant "popularity" rather than "beauty". As a result of your edits that word has been changed to "popularity", which is a better word. That's how Wikipedia is supposed to work. --Sam Blanning (formerly Malthusian) (talk) 17:12, 9 March 2006 (UTC)
Please do not add opinions to articles. Thank you Lurker 15:57, 9 March 2006 (UTC)

If you would have looked at the history of the page, you would have known that I moved the opinion to another place where it was more appropriate. And that has not been reverted, see here. --KimvdLinde 16:05, 9 March 2006 (UTC)

If you want to add things that remain in the article, read it carefully, and insert it at an appropriate point. Just random adding things as you where doing is not going to be appreciated, and many of those edits will just be reverted as vandalism. Furthermore, make things WP:NPOV, that helps keeping them. --KimvdLinde 16:15, 9 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] British English vs. American English

I find that suggestion complete bollocks, old chap! :-) Seriously though, the general convention with British and American English as I understand is:

  • write about English subjects in British English;
  • write about American subjects in American English;
  • with any other subject, use the spelling of whoever started the article.

The most important thing is consistency, but only within articles. Applying consistency across all of Wikipedia just causes too much strife. And it's not hugely important that you find out and remember what spelling to use when writing an article, just be aware that someone may 'correct' you. --Sam Blanning (formerly Malthusian) (talk) 17:25, 9 March 2006 (UTC)

By the way, please sign your posts on talk pages by adding '~~~~' to add your name (or in your case, IP address) and the date, and consider creating an account, as it makes communication with other editors a lot easier and you won't have to reveal your IP address when you edit. --Sam Blanning (formerly Malthusian) (talk) 17:31, 9 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Warning

All editing is preserved, and manipulating comments of others on the talk page is considered vandalism. Consider yourself warned. --KimvdLinde 02:39, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

Pieces that disappear out of the middel are not accidental edits. This was very deliberate. --KimvdLinde 02:44, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

Let me put another warning to this: WP:CIVIL#The_problem. --KimvdLinde 02:59, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

"Colour" is not a mispelling; it is standard English outside NAm. Since parrot is not a NAm topic, I have reverted the spelling. jimfbleak 06:23, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

You have been temporarily blocked for disruption and incivility at Parrot. Feel free to edit after the block expires, but please listen to consensus and edit in accordance with our policy. Thanks. --BorgQueen 14:12, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
