User talk:71.76.39.216

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

You have re-opened an edit war on the WIS page which all other participants thought was settled. The phrase "anchors weather" was a carefully chosen compromise with which everyone else was willing to live. I asked that you read my comments on the article's talk page regarding why I reverted your "meteorologist" edit yesterday. Apparently, you ignored them.

I have e-mailed the Mississippi State Broadcast Meteorology Program asking for their position on this issue, and I will accept their statement as the final word. If the program states that Brooks Garner is entitled to call himself a "meteorologist", then I will support the use of that title on the page as appropriate. If not, it's not an appropriate term to use, no matter how often you insist on inserting it. Either way, constantly warring back and forth about it is destructive to Wikipedia.

The point here is that you do not appear to be editing in good faith, being civil, or working in consensus with other users, as evidenced by the fact that you simply blanked this page several times the last time I asked to discuss this with you. Please review those policies. I'm perfectly willing to hear your side of the story, but if you blank this page again rather than at least responding to my comments in a civil manner, I will take that as evidence of a lack of good faith, and I will pursue an editing block against you. Thanks for your attention. JTRH 00:23, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Mississippi State has confirmed that a recipient of the Broadcast Meteorology Certificate is entitled to call himself a meteorologist. I've changed the title back. While your position was the correct one, I hope that you will conduct yourself more civilly in future editing disputes. Thanks for your attention. JTRH 21:05, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

Dear JTRH,

Thank you for your time in settling this dispute, and contacting MSU. I happen to side that Brooks Garner *is* a meteorolgist. The reason for my previous edits, is that user, "Pro Meteorology Council", obviously had motivations that appeared personal, in questioning Garner's credentials. If MSU agrees that a Certificate+NWA (or AMS) = Meteorologist, let's call it settled, leave Garner's title alone (collectively get a life) and move on... :) - 71.76.39.216

Good strategy. :) JTRH 23:56, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
