Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that exist to attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam policies for further explanations of links that are considered appropriate. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you.—— Eagle101 Need help? 22:02, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Excessive linking to own site
As I've noted on another page to which you contributed, you've added a large number of links to your own site/unpublished book. Please see WP:COI and WP:EL. Since you've continued adding/modifying these, the approach seems overdone and not in line with WP policies about links. I've added a note about this to the conflict of interest noticeboard: Notice on 71.197.70.177. Please take a look at your additions to date and see if they really meet the guidelines; and in particular, slow down, stop or think carefully about adding more for the time being that lead to your own site.--Gregalton 07:59, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] External links
Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Retirement plans in the United States. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam policy for further explanations. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page before reinserting it. Thank you. -- Satori Son 21:10, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
- I accept your authority to remove the link to my book, but I don't think it was an inappropriate link. Accounting for defined benefit plans is a chapter in the book, and defined benefit plans is a significant component of retirement plans in the United States. But you're right that I should have "talk"ed about it and let someone else place the link. BTW, the book was getting a few hits a week from here. Timhowardriley 23:05, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
