[edit] Websites

Greetings and welcome to Wikipedia! Your recent edits to add a website to several Disney related articles does not appear to conform to the Wikipedia policies regarding spam and external links. As such many of them have been reverted by various other editors. However, instead of then discussing with the other editors why you believe your edits were appropriate, you simply reverted their edits and reinstated your links. I have again removed your links. However, I do welcome you to review the policy and reply on this page with your rationale for why your links are appropriate. Thanks, Tiggerjay (talk) 02:10, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

I'm not sure how this site works so I will post this here as well...

Hello, I am the person who did the editing of many Disney pages recently. I want to apologize for adding on so many pages for I didn't fully understand what the External Links policy was. I saw links to random pages that seemed to have nothing to do with attraction remain while the links to Original D that contained a Video of the Attraction kept getting deleted. In my frustration I just added it back. For this I want to apologize. Now that I full understand everything I would like to ask that my edit today on 5/14/08 on the main Disneyland page be looked at. I added a link to Original D in the External Links section along side many other sites that are similar. The difference with Original D is it is unique because it is only about Disneyland and organized information that adds to the article with videos of almost all of the Attractions in the park. I also added a link to the official Disney sites for each park, the hotels, and the Downtown Disney area.

In a nutshell, I apologize and will not spam any of the attraction pages (even though some of them have external links that seem to have nothing to do with the attraction, but whatever. I'll leave them alone.  :)) But please consider the edits I made today on the Disneyland main page. I feel it was a fair edit organizing the links and adding several links (Not just Original D) that I feel are very crucial for Disneyland information. 71.116.162.179 (talk) 01:03, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Original D

I'm not convinced that adding an external link to your website contributes any meaningful value to Wikipedia. It's one of dozens (hundreds?) of fan websites devoted to Disney and its theme parks and it only came into existence in March 2008. Just because your site has information about specific attractions, including video, doesn't make it more valuable than the many, many other unofficial sites that also could be added to every Wikipedia article about Disneyland. Since you continue to say you're "not sure how this site works" I encourage you to read about Wikipedia's policies regarding external links and conflicts of interest, and gain some perspective about the appropriateness of adding links to articles with a high degree of fan interest. Show the community that you have an interest in contributing meaningful content to the encyclopedia beyond just promotion for your own website. —Whoville (talk) 02:28, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

I agree with Whoville in the best way you can show your support is to research some of the policies and then add some significant, noteworthy contributions to the pages, and establish a reputation for being a person interested in adding value to the content of the pages instead of simply trying to link to your site, which may also qualify as conflict of interest. Beyond that, what may be a good proving ground as to if your website should be listed as an external link would be to attempt to create a wiki page on Origional D, and go through the process of establishing notability for your website -- if your website gets accepted into wikipedia, after say a couple of months, then it may be appropriate to create an external link to your website. I think what many of the editors are looking for is a proven track record of adding valuable information to the articles. Tiggerjay (talk) 05:38, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
Also, if that is your website, then doing *anything* to add it to WP yourself (or through a proxy) is a violation of WP:COS policy. SpikeJones (talk) 12:48, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
I strongly disagree with the suggestion to "attempt to create a wiki page on Original D". It's a small, non-notable fan site that has only been in existence for a few weeks. It doesn't belong in the encyclopedia. Plus, as advice for a new user who already has expressed confusion about Wikipedia's policies, I think it creates more confusion about what is and isn't appropriate. I don't think anyone should suggest to brand new users who have spammed Wikipedia that there is a process by which their personal website can be "accepted" into the encyclopedia. —Whoville (talk) 13:15, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Edits For Dewdrinker19

Instead of editing a page and then instantly emailing me to let me know what you did. Please suggest what you are thinking. Thank you for pointed out the Wikiproject Disney. But no need to add me on the list without me knowing. Especially since you did not include a link to my talk page.  ;) -Dewdrinker19 (talk) 23:29, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
