I was bitten by a 7 " Arizona centipede several days ago, and it was one of the most painful experiences of my life. I was bitten on my thumb, and in a few minutes my hand clear down to my wrist was swollen twice normal. I tried percoset as it was the most powerful pain reliever I had, but it didn't do anything for me. Ice only made it worse. I finally took two vicodin tablets every 3 hours which helped me get through the night. My hand still hurt the next day, but the pain diminished quite a bit, and it took 3 days for the swelling to go down. On the same day in the paper was a story about a woman who was bitten by a 6" centipede and thought it was more like a bad mosquito bite. Maybe I am allergic, although I have been bitten by spiders and bees, with very little pain. Go figure.
