[edit] Overview
Danish muti-instrumentalist Søren Bonke met Scottish singer-songwriter Tamara Schlesinger via mutual friends at a gig in London in 2004 and was soon enlisted to play guitar on Tamara's debut solo album. The recording went very well and they proceeded to tour live across the UK with the rest of Tamara's band; promoting the album which garnered excellent reviews and national airplay. It was during this period that their creative collaboration intensified as they started to develop exciting new songs that fused Søren's musicianship and arrangement skills with Tamara's flair for hooky melodies and compelling lyrics to create a distinctive new sound. This was clearly now no longer a solo project and 6 Day Riot was born.
The band's self-produced demo caught the interest of producer Steve Levine and the three immediately set about re-recording the standout tracks from the demo before developing a number of other new tracks, each defining and exploring their burgeoning sound more than the last. This fusion of Steve's vast experience, passion and technical know-how with Tamara and Søren's talent and flair has led them into some exciting new musical territory
The pair were joined by Jonathan Beyer on upright bass and Daniel Deavin on drums and together the band have struck the perfect balance between their foot-stompingly raucous proclivities, as evidenced by their live performances, and the intricate and compelling nuances they've successfully committed to their debut record. The result is an outstanding collection of songs that fully evokes the world of this remarkable new band.
The 6 Day Riot sound is both eclectic and at the same time entirely integrated - harnessing banjos, ukeleles, guitars and accordions with Eastern European folk beats, bluegrass rhythms, distorted guitars and infectious pop melodies to create a style of music utterly their own.
